Brian Ronald - CEO

Brian is a co-founder and CEO of Sigma IO. As a technologist, Brian's role is the programme management and delivery for Sigma IO.

With a wealth of experience in the aerospace industry and visualisation technologies, Brian's experience gives him a sound base to understand companies' requirements and deliver tailored solutions. He has a passion for exploring new technologies and an ability to see how these can be applied to industry.

Brian has 29 years of aerospace manufacturing experience with Rolls Royce. Starting with a Modern Apprenticeship, Brian has worked through many roles on the shop floor, to Digital Manufacturing Lead, achieving a BSc in Design Engineering Management from the Open University. He has a passion for education and is involved in numerous educational bodies. He has delivered several successful educational programmes, earning him the Helen Dowie Award for Lifelong Learning in 2017.

Kenneth McRae - CTO

Kenneth is a co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Sigma IO. With a masters degree in Civil Engineering from Strathclyde University and six years of experience as an engineer in an industrial manufacturing plant, he has a solid background in the operating environment that the digital technology is being applied to.

Since his employment in industry, Kenneth has focused on studying computer interfaces and XR equipment at the University of Strathclyde, and as part of this presented sevral lectures to postgraduate classes on Industry 4.0, specifically XR technologies and industry mindset.

For over a year, Kenneth worked on the ADVs project with Strathclyde University and South Ayrshire Council, where he put both his engineering knowledge and computing experience to deliver software solutions for SME and STEM projects. He specialised in 3D asset creation and the programming needed to create AR/VR programmes to rapidly prototype and develop visualisations for a wide range of SMEs.

He started programming as a hobby in high school and has been continuously learning ever since.
He can write in: C+/#, RegEx, JavaScript, JSON, EJS, HTML, CSS, PHP, SQL, Python, Java, MATLAB, VBA, Siemens S7 (and other PLC).

Web Baised Results

Client: Scottish Sporting Car Club
Task: Automated Results program

SSCC ran Autotest events with a paper-based results system for many years, however, this was slow and labour-intensive. The communication of the results was also limited to a single handwritten table.

Sigma IO created a web-based program to simultaneously time, record, calculate and live publish the results as they happened.

The marshals portal was a simple and intuitive GUI which removed the need to transcript from a stop-watch to paper. The score was then automatically calculated, removing more potential human errors and pushed out to everyone watching the results. This all happened in a few milliseconds meaning that spectators had truly live results on their mobile phones.

Target 3D - Technical Services

Sigma IO has provided technical services to Target3D, including custom PCB design and production, prototyping of IoT devices and other electronic hardware.
